History:
Selina Kyle was born into a wealthy family, unfortunately following her parent’s murder she was the victim of an abusive marriage at an early age. She made sure to escape from he husband as soon as possible, however out of spite he cut her off from the fortune her family had left her, sealing it away in a private vault. However Selina wasn’t one to give up so easily. She broke into the vault and retrieved her riches, enjoying the experience so much that she moved into villainy full time and adopted the alias of Catwoman.
Selina was an aspiring gymnast as a child, so put those skills to good use in a life of crime. Over her career she’s had many run-ins with the guardian of Gotham City, the Batman, whom she considers to be one of her greatest rivals and occasional lover. She’s both a socialite and an animal rights activist, especially when it comes to the cats she has an affinity for.
In later years Selina became the chief suspect in a serious murder inquiry, however once her name was clear she vanished, presumed dead. However Catwoman eventually returned to Gotham City, becoming the protector of Gotham’s East End. Yet despite this, she does still keep to her roots and continue her career as a cat-burglar. Selina is one of the few people who are aware of Batman’s secret identity, for Bruce revealed it to her during one of their romantic relationships.
Personality:
Catwoman isn’t strictly bad like most other villains; she merely has a rather ambiguous moral code. To say the least she would never commit murder. She sees her own criminal activities more like a hobby then anything darker, and does attempt to balance it by protecting the East End’s residents. Because of this leisurely attitude she has a distinct taste for high-stake thefts, enjoying the thrill that they provide. Selina favours a bullwhip or cat-o-nine-tails in combat, due to the fact that these weapons take a lot of skill to use and therefore could not be used against her if she were disarmed.
Alignment:
Chaotic Neutral
Occupation:
Cat-Burglar/Guardian
Custom Title:
Selina Kyle: Socialite
Home:
Gotham’s East End
Roleplay Sample:
A lone figure was lounging on a high rooftop in Gotham City, seemingly not caring about the heavy rain that was pelting down out of the sky. Every so often she would glance over the edge, looking around as if for something in particular before relaxing once again. This was a rather slow night for Selina Kyle. Usually there would be all sorts of crimes and other illicit activities breaking out across the city, however for one reason or another her presence as Catwoman in the East End didn’t seem to be required on this evening.
“A kitten could easily get bored like this,” muttered the anti-heroine in a thoroughly disinterested tone of voice, “then again…” she straightened up for a moment, “there are other things I could do with my time.” That morning she’d read about an incredibly valuable blue diamond that had arrived at the Gotham Museum to be displayed in a special exhibition that started next week. Why, it would certainly be heavily guarded, and she could just imagine the Museum directors’ faces when they realised it was gone.
Selina was in the midst of a daydream full of shiny, expensive objects when her attention was suddenly tugged back to the real world by the sound of a cry for help on the street below. Catwoman snapped to attention instantly, flipping forward off her back and onto her feet as she quickly scanned the scene below. There! A woman was being mugged by several burly looking thugs. Sighing as she realised she’d have to put her diamond aspirations back for another night, Catwoman leapt off the rooftop, grabbing onto a lamp post and swinging around it before sliding to the ground just behind the criminals.
“Look what we have here,” she began, her confident voice almost a purr as she slowly unfurled the bullwhip that had been hanging at her belt, “a couple of rats in the wrong part of town.” She struck out in a second, cracking the whip out at the muggers’ feet and sending the first crashing to the ground. His friend blanched, turning to flee before being felled himself by a second crack that slashed into his cheek. Selina sighed in disappointment at how simple the matter had been, turning away from the woman’s thanks and disappearing into the night once again.
((Like with most Batman characters there are a lot of different versions of her back-story, so I combined elements from several to create one to use))
